FAQ
Q1.
How a driver feels comfortable when vehicle is fitted with NTHS ?.
Ans .
At present, driver is involved in manual beam shifting and manual indication for stay left to following vehicle. Driver performs these operations 100 times/Night or more. NTHS does these operations automatically. Driver feels comfortable and can focus more on other urgent operations like steering control etc.
Q2.
Do the high end cars have this provision of auto dipper.
Ans .
Yes. BMW’s series-6 has High beam assist provision. Similarly, other foreign cars with prices more than (approx. 50 Lacs) have such high tech provision. In India, Hyundai has this device available with all dealers in India.
Q3.
What is advantage to driver if his headlight beam is shifted down words?
Ans.
High beam of your vehicle may blind the driver coming from opposite direction. If driver of opposite vehicle turns blind, he will hit you and involve you in serious head- ON collision accident.
Q4.
Problem of glare is largely due to improper focusing of headlights rather than absence of dipping.
Ans .
If problem of glare is due to improper focusing, why do we get glare from a brand new vehicle’s headlight. If proper focusing is solution to glare, new vehicle should not create such problems, but we face this problem even with a new vehicle. So, glare problem is due to high beam of headlight.
Q5.
When the headlight of one vehicle was weak and other bright, the weaker headlight dipped first while the brighter headlight continued to be on ‘’High’’ beam and dazzle the first vehicle.
Ans .
If approaching vehicle has ‘’weak light’’ or ‘’no light’’ the vehicle with autodipper will work at lesser distance in case approaching vehicle has ‘’ weak lights’’. Vehicle won’t dip if approaching vehicle is having ‘’no light’’. Auto dipper is a solution to majority of encounters at night but not to all encounters at night. Auto dipper solves 90% and not 100% of problems in a given system.
Q6 .
In the convoy mode, the headlight of the single vehicle facing the convoy tended to dip and headlight of the oncoming vehicles in the convoy continued to remain in high beam or flicker erratically.
Ans .
Like any other device, auto dipper is a device which needs instructions on how to use it. In a convoy, all vehicles except leading vehicle need to keep their beam in dipped state to see the immediate road conditions. It can be done by placing the manual ‘’High/Low’’ beam lever in low beam position as the same ‘’High/Low’’ beam lever deactivates the dipper when placed in ’’low’’ beam mode.
Q7 .
Is there any provision of Law/Rule regarding use of auto dipper?
Ans .
Yes, Rule 106 (c), (d) mandates the use of Auto dipper. Rule 106 of Central Motor Vehicle Rules is reproduced in Website under Government Notifications
Q8 .
WAIT Light provision is under which Law/Rule.
Ans .
Rule 6 of RULES OF THE ROAD REGULATIONS, 1989, deals with overtaking prohibition provision and is reproduced in Website under Government Notifications
Q9 .
Can I be Challenged for violation of Rule 106.
Ans .
Yes. Violation of rule 106 is offence under CMV Act /Rules.
Q10 .
Reflection from the rear glass or body surface of the vehicle ahead also made the headlight dip. What should a driver do ?
Ans .
When trailing vehicle comes too close to leading vehicle, auto dipper in trailing vehicle gives a ‘’ dip’’ which, as per conventions, means trailing vehicle asking for road side. If trailing vehicle is not willing to overtake the leading vehicle, trailing vehicle should place manual ‘’High/Low’’ beam lever in ‘’Low’’ beam position. When you are following a vehicle closely , it is advantageous to keep your beam in low position.
Q11 .
The trials are conducted on an ideal test track. The performance of the auto dipper on narrow roads and roads with uneven surface is proved or not ?.
Ans .
Auto dipper has been fitted in more than 30000 vehicles and they are all on roads for years. Drivers are fully satisfied with performance of auto dipper.
Q12 .
Ambient light conditions varied widely on Indian roads and the performance of auto dipper in such conditions is established or not ?
Ans .
Auto dipper is part of Night Time Highway System for automobiles. As per law, we need to keep beam in ‘’Low’’ in City area. So, there is no concept of auto dipper in City area. Auto dipper gets deactivated when manual ‘’High/Low’’ beam lever is placed in ‘’Low’’ position. Auto dipper works well for all ambient light conditions on Highways. When we enter in city area , auto dipper puts the beam in low position in high light area . Otherwise also, we should keep our beam in low position in city area.
